On December 1, Kazakhstanis celebrate the Day of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The Day of the First President in the country began to be celebrated in 2012.

On December 10, 2011, at the plenary session of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the law “On making additions to the law of the Republic of Kazakhstan “On holidays in the Republic of Kazakhstan” was adopted. The historical background and basis for choosing the date of the holiday was the event that took place on December 1, 1991 - as a result of the first popular elections, Nursultan Abishevich Nazarbayev was re-elected to the post of President of the Kazakh SSR.

The acquisition of state sovereignty and the formation of an independent Kazakhstan on the political map of the world needed to develop its own model of state and power. In the most difficult internal and geopolitical conditions, the Head of State assumed the historical responsibility for the creation of an independent and democratic state. At that difficult time, President Nazarbayev proposed a promising and convincing course for the development of the country, which influenced the entire course of our modern history, the formation and strengthening of Kazakhstan's statehood.

Over the past years, the Head of State has built a clear power vertical, strengthened statehood, and formed a socially oriented market economy. The people of Kazakhstan have witnessed a carefully crafted plan for large-scale economic and political transformation.
The high international prestige of Kazakhstan has become a direct result of the “Kazakhstani way” recognized in the world. Global anti-nuclear initiatives, convening the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Buildings in Asia, holding congresses of leaders of world and traditional religions, Kazakhstan's chairmanship in 2010 in the OSCE (Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe) and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in 2011 found wide support the world community. Another confirmation of the high international prestige of our country was the victory of the Kazakh application and the successful holding of the International Specialized Exhibition "EXPO-2017" in Astana.

All this is evidence of the real success of Kazakhstan's foreign policy, formed under the leadership of national leader Nursultan Nazarbayev.
