It is not the first year that the employees of the SSIF become donors, participating in campaigns for voluntary blood donation.
Any physically healthy person can become a donor. Voluntary blood donation, according to experts, is an act of patriotism, humanity, mercy and compassion for people. After all, blood is the source of life. A critical situation where a blood transfusion may be needed can happen to anyone. Donor blood is especially in demand in the treatment of children suffering from serious illnesses. Often, the only way to save someone's life is through a healthy blood transfusion.
Artificial blood substitutes have side effects, are toxic, expensive and are not able to completely replace all components and reproduce all the functions of blood in the body, so donated blood is practically indispensable for transfusions to victims of burns and injuries, during complex operations and during difficult births. Blood is also vital for hemophiliacs and cancer patients during chemotherapy. Every third inhabitant of the Earth needs donated blood at least once in his life.
